Red Spice Road’s Queen Street Location Opens Friday!

Melbourne’s favourite modern Asian restaurant, Red Spice Road, is opening its doors at 141 Queen Street this Friday 8th November. Due to the impending redevelopment of the McKillop Street precinct, Red Spice Road began preparing for the move in 2018. The new location, a short walk from McKillop Street, has undergone a 2.5 million dollar fit-out and was designed and built by in-house award-winning architect design team and Mammoth Projects.

The restaurant’s new home, the former FGY Art Gallery, has been transformed from a Buddhist Art Gallery into the buzzing communal dining concept Red Spice Road is renowned for. Features include a grand entrance with huge brass doors and a marble lobby peppered with iconic Red Spice Road lanterns, an internal marble staircase, double story windows, and ornate vaulted ceilings all within a heritage-listed 1900 façade. The iconic oversized red lantern has been recreated and a new showstopping custom made silk version now hangs from the vaulted ceilings alongside iconic David Bromley artworks. Mike Eleven murals from the McKillop Street space are being recreated for visitors to continue to enjoy. This stunning sun-drenched space retains the heart and soul of Red Spice Road promising shared and private dining spaces and lively vibes in a new location.

“After 12 years at our beloved McKillop Street location, we were looking for our next venue for a very long time. We had a long list of ‘must-haves’ and when the Queen Street property came on the market, we knew it was the one. This has been a challenging building project – but worth it. Our design team has yet again done an amazing job creating the perfect new home for Red Spice Road. We are really excited about opening the doors and the new adventure ahead and look forward to inviting Melbourne to come and enjoy the new Red Spice Road energy” says Vanessa Green, Co-owner and Managing Director, Apples + Pears Entertainment Group.

The culinary team lead by Head Chef Sungeun Mo, bring the restaurant’s signature dishes including the cult classic ‘Melbourne’s favourite pork belly’ to the new space, whilst adding fresh inspiration to complement the new fit-out. Other signature dishes including cumin and pepper-crusted lamb ribs, Malaysian duck curry, kingfish salad, and spicy Korean BBQ beef ribs will continue to hero on the Queen Street menu. In addition to this, Mo and her team have been busy in the kitchen preparing new dishes that push the boundaries when it comes to bold, complex, yet refreshing flavours. The menu focuses on sustainability through sourcing the best fresh produce from local producers and farmers in regional Victoria.

The new venue seats up to 300 diners across the main dining area, 3 private dining rooms, a mezzanine level with views of the bustling restaurant below and dedicated lounge and bar areas. There’s an open kitchen where guests can see the magic happen and plenty of spaces to relax for a drink or a meal. The new restaurant was designed with sustainability in mind. Innovations include a glass crusher, reducing our glass waste volume by 80%, an Orca aerobic organic waste disposal system to reduce general waste going to landfill and top of the range water-efficient glass and dishwashers. The bar plays its part offering filtered still water, sparkling water, and premium local wines on tap reducing the waste and carbon footprint of packaged glass and plastic products.

Red Spice Road has grown up and we look forward to inviting you in to experience the next chapter! #thenewadventurebegins
